How to Get Visitors from Busy, Prominent Websites
When you think of hijacking, you generally think about something illegal, or unethical at the least. The type of hijacking, or siphoning that I am talking about here is completely ethical, in fact these techniques can be mutually beneficial to both sites. It sounds too good to be true but it isn’t. I’ve used most of these ideas myself, and they all have been worth the effort, sometimes accounting for over 10% of the entire sites’ traffic.
Guest Blogging
Can work in two different ways, one where you write articles for another blog, and the second where you invite other bloggers to write articles on your blog.
The end result of either can be a noticeable increase in traffic on your own blog. One well known example of blogs that accept guest bloggers, and one that I’ve personally used to market my websites is Ezines Articles. Simply create an account and then write an article, ideally in a category that relates to your own blog or website. You are usually allowed to put a link to your own blog or website into the article, or at minimum a link to your blog in the signature portion of the article.
It really is a great way getting your name out there and gaining some noticeable traffic from an already established site.
Tips for Guest Bloggers
- Properly introduce yourself prior to writing the first article. Let the editor know who you are, what you can do, and link to examples of your work. This will improve the chances that the blog editor will let you write a guest article.
- Put your best foot forward, and try to keep the quality level the highest possible. You are making a first impression with the blog editor and the readers of the blog and the first impression is usually the one remembered.
- Promote your article, if your article drives quality traffic to the host blog then it may improve the chances of posting again in the future
Hosting guest bloggers is another way to increase traffic and gain visitors. It is as simple as inviting other bloggers to write articles on your own blog. Your blog can benefit with the additional content, plus you may learn new ideas and innovative writing techniques that you wouldn’t have otherwise learned.

Posting Site Links is another way to gain traffic from well established sites. This method can drive a lot of traffic to your website. One well known example, that has worked very well for generating traffic on this site is Dzone. Dzone has a great collection of technical content, a nice community of talented developers and a cool “up”, “down” article voting process which can be useful for getting honest feedback about your articles. I highly recommend you check them out if you haven’t already done so. Posting site links, just like guest blogging can be mutually beneficial.

Hi, Check out the Adsense on Top widget. It has to be used along with the other Adsense widget but works nice. Might have just been me, but I found some hard coded references to the author’s google publisher id that were showing up until I deleted the references. I wouldn’t have a problem donating but this site only generates pennies per month (maybe one to five ad clicks per week max).
